This interdisciplinary middle school unit turns summer into an unforgettable learning adventure. Blending history, science, English language arts, and art, this engaging unit invites students to explore the science of sunlight, the mysteries of the ocean, the origins of American independence, reptiles, rainforests, photography, and more through hands-on activities, research, creative projects, and meaningful discussions.
 
Students will investigate topics such as the layers of Earth’s atmosphere, renewable energy, tides and waves, weather tools, and mosquito-borne diseases while also learning about the summer solstice, the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson, Independence Hall, and the history of ice cream and photography. Along the way, they’ll strengthen critical thinking and communication skills through research writing, persuasive paragraphs, reading comprehension, chart analysis, poetry study, and reflection writing.
 
This unit is designed to make learning connected and engaging. Students create watercolor paintings, analyze photography, create diagrams, explore ocean zones, study rainforest animals, investigate weather instruments, and discover how science, history, and art work together in the world around them.
