FAQs
Here are some answers to our most commonly asked questions
What is Digestible Discoveries?
Digestible Discoveries are monthly magazine-style unit studies designed for middle school homeschool students. Each issue is built around a unique theme—like Food Throughout Time or From Swamp to Settlement (Exploring Jamestown)—and includes 20 mini-lessons that cover history, science, and art with language arts woven throughout. It’s meant to be engaging, flexible, and easy to use, whether as a core curriculum, supplement or a fun monthly enrichment. Themes change monthly.
Who is Digestible Discoveries for?
Our magazine is designed to be open-and-go with middle age (grades 6–9) in mind, but many families find it works well for 4th and 5th graders or even as a lighter supplement for high school students. Parents love that the lessons are short, interesting, and adaptable for different learning styles.
Why should I use Digestible Discoveries?
Instead of heavy textbooks or long unit studies, Digestible Discoveries delivers bite-sized learning. Each issue is:
-
Theme-based so students make natural connections across subjects
-
Flexible with lessons that can be done in 15-30 minutes a day
-
All-in-one covering history, science, art, and language arts
-
Fun and engaging with creative activities, projects, and thought-provoking questions
How much time does it take each day?
Most families spend 15-30 minutes per day working through a mini-lesson. You can use it as a quick daily warm-up, a morning basket resource, or expand on the lessons with included optional projects, activities, and discussions.
Do I need to buy extra books or supplies?
Nope! Each issue is self-contained and ready to use. Occasionally, we’ll suggest optional activities that might require common household items, art supplies, or a library book, but everything you need for the core lessons is included.
How do I receive each issue?
Issues are available in digital (PDF) format for instant download, or in print (shipped to your home). You choose what works best for your homeschool style.
Can I use it as a full curriculum?
Digestible Discoveries is designed as a complete unit study curriculum that connects history, science, art, and language arts. While it covers multiple subjects, it does not include a math component. For a full year middle school credit of science, history, art, and language arts we recommend that you complete 7-9 units including one of the suggested novels for each unit. There are multiple suggested activities, writing practice, and science labs included with each unit.
Do you offer subscriptions?
Yes! You can enjoy Digestible Discoveries in two ways:
-
Individual Issues – Purchase only the themes that interest your family as a digital or print issue.
-
Digital Subscription – Get a new issue delivered to you each month for $8.49/month through our Discovery Hub or save with an annual plan for $75/year
Print issues are available individually and are not currently part of the subscription plan.
What ages can use Digestible Discoveries together?
Because the lessons are short and flexible, siblings in different grades can often learn together. Activities are easily adjusted to different levels of ability and interest. This can easily be adapted as a read-a-loud for younger students.
Is this Secular?
Yes. I have chosen not to include Bible studies in this curriculum—not because I believe it is not important, but because I recognize that each family and individual experiences different seasons in life. What my family feels led to study at this time may differ from what your family is being called to explore. I believe that Bible study is a deeply personal and spiritual decision, best determined by your unique circumstances and needs.
